Introduction and General Information
The 1st State Mental Health and Substance Abuse Science Summit is being held to acquaint legislators, state executives, community providers, other stakeholders and the media about the medical dynamics of mental illness and substance abuse. Evidence-based behavioral health practices; efforts nationally and in Florida to turn science into practice; and the cost efficiency and effectiveness of providing proven community treatments and services research will be reviewed. The audience will learn that behavioral health treatment outcomes parallel those achieved in treating physical diseases and that good behavioral health is essential to good physical health. The summit will be facilitated by Dr. David Shern, Ph.D., President and CEO of Mental Health America and include speakers that are national and state experts.
The Summit is sponsored by Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association, Florida Council for Community Mental Health, Florida Partners in Crisis , Florida Psychiatric Society, Disabilities Rights Florida and NAMI Florida.
